The purpose of these sights is to provide a sight that is built as simple and rugged as possible. Making it both tough and affordable while providing the best sight picture possible with a receiver peep sight. This is accomplished by machining it from one piece of steel. This means that the sight is fixed and is not adjustable for elevation. The mounting screw holes are, however, slotted to allow for a slight windage adjustment. In order to make it adjustable for elevation, it would require separate parts to be made and fitted together, which increases its complexity and cost. Most receiver sights currently on the market, although moderately adjustable, are not able to adjust far enough to zero your rifle. The KRA Rugged sight, like many of these others, will require you to change your front sight to one of a different height. This is easily figured by shooting a group from a known distance and measuring the distance the group needs to move and making a simple calculation to figure the difference in sight height needed. (Check out the Videos tab above to watch a video demonstrating how this is done.) The KRA Rugged Receiver Sights offer an attractive, simple and durable sight at an affordable price for folks who are willing to put in the effort of calculating and changing out their front sight to achieve the zero for their rifle.

The KRA Rugged Sights are available in four different heights. Measured from the bottom of the sight (or top of your receiver) to the center of the aperture, they are 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, and 1/2″. The Marlin 336 pictured at the top of this page has the 5/16″ tall receiver sight on it and it works well with a .300″ tall patridge front sight. The stainless 1895GS has the 1/2″ tall version which is necessary to achieve a 100 yard zero due to the larger diameter barrel as it places the front sight higher in relation to the receiver. Every individual rifle is a little different, these four sizes are offered so that you can select the most appropriate height and then fine tune it by changing your front sight height.

The Rugged sights come with an aperture with a .128″ sized peep. These apertures will not fit the KRA Micrometer Adjustable Sight! These are instead made with the same 7/32″-40 threads used by several other manufacturers such as Lyman, Redfield, and Williams. Skinner apertures are threaded #12-40, they will work in the KRA Rugged sights, but KRA apertures will not work in Skinner sights. If you want to use other manufactures apertures in these sights, they will also need to have a 5/16″ major outside diameter or less to clear the rear mounting screw.
